There are a number of ways that the Northern Beaches is becoming more accessible and inclusive than ever. And it’s many of our local businesses who are leading the charge in adapting their products and services so they suit the needs of the whole community.
One such business is The Cube Allied Health, who won our Disability Inclusion Award last year for the amazing work they have done creating a space where everyone is welcome.
We spoke to Lewis McLean, Director and Head Coach of The Cube Allied Health who told us why inclusion is at the core of their business.
Applications for this year’s Disability Inclusion Award are now open. So if you know a local business or are a business owner who has gone above and beyond to be inclusive and accessible to people with disability, apply now.
What does The Cube Allied Health do to make it an accessible place for everyone? We work with all abilities and endeavour to make The Cube Allied Health a place that is non-intimidating and that everyone feels welcome.
We have accessible space and programs for Special Olympic groups, including people with Spinal Cord Injury, Multiple Sclerosis and other disabilities all under the same roof. We have a Special Olympic + Cube team sled relay pencilled in later in the year!
Why is inclusion and accessibility important to you, your business and staff? Our staff experience huge satisfaction when we are able to mix all abilities into the same space. The smiles and laughter of the special Olympics crew is seriously infectious.
Working with a ranging demographic is grounding for our staff. The physical and mental benefits our programs can have on all participants is massive and very rewarding to our staff knowing we can make a real difference.
How did it feel to win Northern Beaches Council’s Inclusion Award last year?We were nominated by one of the families of the Special Olympic group. We were completely blown away to be nominated and shocked that we won.
It made all of the effort (especially through Covid lockdowns) worth it and we are grateful for the recognition.
Anyone can nominate a business for the Disability Inclusion Award, including customers, community members, businesses owners and staff. Nominations close Monday 7 June.
