Byron Shire Council’s Community Events and Sponsorship Fund is open and organisers of community events are encouraged to apply.
A total of $10,000 is available to be shared between five events.
Byron Shire Mayor, Michael Lyon, said the aim of the fund is to build the capacity of people and groups to organise events that support the community and local economy.
“The grants can be used to get an event established or perhaps to embed sustainability initiatives for things such as waste or recycling,” Mayor Lyon said.
“The pandemic had a huge impact on local events last year so some people might take this opportunity to seek funding to help implement COVID safety measures,” he said.
“Our Shire is well known for its events and while some are well-established, others are trying to get established and this is where our fund can provide some help.
“Music, film, environment, sports - the events that are held in Byron Shire are incredibly diverse and not only do they bring an incredible amount of money into the area, they also bring our community together.
“It is important that we attract and foster events that reflect our community and environment,” Mayor Lyon said.
