The statewide Bin Trim Program provides free help and support to NSW businesses to maximise their recycling and minimise the waste ending up in landfill.

Canberra Region Joint Organisation (CRJO) is currently offering local businesses in the Snowy Monaro a free waste audit, report and review, to facilitate the diversion of waste from landfill and to assist businesses in reducing waste costs and reaching their sustainability goals. In addition to the development of a tailor-made Bin Trim Action Plan, businesses may be eligible for a rebate of between $1000 and $50,000 to help with the purchase price of recycling equipment.

Roughly 70% of the materials in a business’s general waste bin can be reused or recycled. From cardboard, paper, metal and plastic through to food waste – so much of this ends up in the general waste bin when it could be avoided, reused or recycled.

Why join the Bin Trim program?

1.Increasing recycling of business waste can reduce waste costs 2.Company operations are streamlined 3.Company reputation is enhanced amongst clients 4.Employees feel good about this activity undertaken by their business

95% of businesses that have taken part in the program have diverted waste from landfill to improve productivity and save on operational costs. This program can and does help businesses save money.

How does it work?

•Companies register to join the Bin Trim program: [email protected] •A specialist waste materials assessor visits the company and carries out a waste audit •The results of this audit are used to prepare a report for the company with recommended actions to assist the business in its waste management process •The specialist CRJO assessor assists the business in implementing these actions, however they are not obliged to change any current practices •Following these initial report the assessor undertakes a second review and report for the business

Program Outcomes

Since August 2020 over 200 waste assessments have been completed by the CRJO. Through this program, several businesses have secured funding for waste equipment, including balers, shredders, food dehydrators and other tailor-made waste systems.

If you are interested in accessing a rebate, contact CRJO on 0417795444 or email [email protected].
