Policy reaffirms Council’s advocacy role MEDIA RELEASE

Council’s newly adopted Advocacy Policy recognises the organisations critical role in advocating to State and Federal Governments on matters that impact the quality of life and liability of the Cairns community.

While Council has developed and endorsed advocacy positions for a number of matters in the past, the adoption of a formal policy provides greater clarity in determining how advocacy positions are identified, developed, considered and adopted.

The policy recognises that all three levels of government have a part to play in supporting quality of life and liveability in the community, and Council has a role in advocating on behalf of the community to ensure appropriate services, policies and infrastructure are delivered by others, including State and Federal Governments.
