The $10.2 million Landsdale library and youth innovation hub project will soon take shape, with Bollig Design Group announced as the architectural company appointed to create the design.

Draft concept designs endorsed by Council and released for community consultation in 2019 reflected a unique community facility with a modern library, public meeting rooms, quiet reading spaces and a café.

In November 2020, a ‘youth innovation hub’ was included as part of the library project thanks to a $3 million State Government grant, secured by Member for Landsdale, Margaret Quirk MLA.

City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said she was delighted with the community feedback so far and looked forward to the next phase of the project, which would include a music and podcast studio, and design and coding areas as part of the youth hub.

“This project reflects the future of how we design libraries and interactive spaces based on modern usage patterns and the community’s social and educational needs,” she said.

“The new library promises to inspire, entertain and fascinate people of all ages, and the youth innovation hub offers a collaborative, educational and creative space for our almost 50,000 young people.

“Through the community consultation process we received insights and creative ideas on what the library and hub should include and I cannot wait to see them brought to life in the architect’s detailed design,” she said.

Landsdale Primary School Principal Josh Jashari said the library and youth hub was a wonderful initiative for the Landsdale community.

“Not only will the Hub be a draw card and central meeting place of the broader community but it would attract and inspire creativity, ingenuity and engagement of the younger age group through catering for their interest in digital technology and music,” he said.

“It would also support our school's strong focus on digital technology and act as a pathway to transition and connect this learning into our immediate community.”

Member for Landsdale, Margaret Quirk MLA, said she was thrilled to see the next step in this important project for the community.

“This exciting development offers youth in the growing area an attractive array of activities,” she said.

“I am so pleased to have secured State Government funding for this important community asset”.

The hub space will focus on ‘STEAM’ (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) learning, which will allow people of all ages to enhance their digital learning, explore different technologies and learn some new skills to assist with gaining employment in emerging industries.

Construction of the library and youth innovation hub is tipped for completion in the 2023/24 financial year.
