Liverpool City Council encourages residents to help plant trees in recognition of National Volunteer Week from 17-23 May.

People of all ages are invited to help plant trees at the next Community Tree Planting event on Saturday 22 May from 9am-11am at Meere Park, Lurnea (meet at the park on Shortland Avenue).

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said there are many opportunities for residents to volunteer in Liverpool.

“We recognise that the impacts of COVID have seen a decrease in volunteers as ABS data has shown nearly one in ten Australians have not returned to volunteering in the past year,” Mayor Waller said.

“We need more volunteers and locally, there are many ways to help including restoring our natural environment, participating in Auslan classes at Liverpool City Library or lending a hand at the Liverpool Regional Museum and Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

“If you are looking to make a difference, learn a new skill and try something new, volunteering is a great way to meet like-minded people, give back to the community and have fun.

“This is also a time to recognise and thank our volunteers for their commitment and tireless efforts to give back, help the less fortunate and vulnerable members of our community.

Some of our environment volunteers have dedicated almost 18 years of service, which is a tremendous contribution. Thank you to all our volunteers for making a positive difference in our community.” Mayor Waller added.

Council will host a Thank you Community Fun Day for people of all ages to enjoy on Saturday 24 July from 11am-4pm at Bigge Park in Liverpool to celebrate the efforts of our local heroes, community organisations and frontline workers. More details on this event will be announced.
