Wollondilly Council is seeking feedback from the community to gain a clear understanding of local connectivity issues, to help Council advocate for better infrastructure and services to the Federal government, government agencies and telecommunications companies.
As a peri-urban Shire on the fringe of Greater Sydney, Wollondilly connects to the internet through a mix of technologies. Some homes and businesses access fixed line connections, while others use fixed wireless, satellite, or mobile broadband.
Mayor Robert Khan said, “Many of us have relied heavily on internet connectivity this past year, with large numbers of people working from home and home schooling their children during lockdown.”
“Council has heard many stories from community members about their experience of poor internet and mobile connections in Wollondilly.”
“We want to better understand any connectivity issues our residents and businesses have experienced, and how well local internet and mobile services meet their needs.”
While unreliable internet connection could be letting some residents down, it is also a crucial issue for local business owners. Some businesses have recently taken up the Business NBN Enterprise Ethernet and Council would like to hear about their experiences.
Mayor Khan said, “We are asking everyone to take our survey, to help ensure we have the right focus when advocating for better digital infrastructure and internet connectivity in the Wollondilly area.”
For individual assistance with issues, residents and businesses should contact their service provider directly.
