On Thursday, 27 May, Chanston Paech MLA officially opened the Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) and MacDonnell Regional Council (MRC) new building on Bagot Street in Alice Springs.
The event was attended by the Councillors and executives of both councils, the Lord Mayor of Darwin Kon Vatskalis, the Mayor of Alice Springs Town Council, Damien Ryan and the CEO of Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT), Sean Holden (Kon Vatskalis is also the President of LGANT).
The building is used to house the MRC Alice Springs staff as well provide a joint Council chambers for both councils. The Council chambers were put to the test on Friday by the CDRC Councillors for their May Ordinary Council Meeting.
Before the opening on Thursday, the staff of CDRC were given a tour of the new building while the MRC staff were given a tour of the CDRC building next door, which had renovations last year.
