Liverpool City Council is now seeking nominations for the 2021 Order of Liverpool Awards recognising unsung heroes whose contributions have had a measurable, positive impact on the City of Liverpool.

The Order of Liverpool Awards are presented annually to local citizens who have advanced the City over several years in one or more categories including civic, community, recreation and sports and commerce and industry.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller encouraged residents to nominate the inspirational people in their lives.

“We all have someone in our lives who strives to make our community a better place to live, work and play – whether it’s a next-door neighbour, family friend or a local charity worker.

“If someone you know is giving up hours and hours of their personal time to improve our community from a grass-roots level, this is an opportunity to give them the recognition they deserve.”

The awards were created in 1979 by former Mayor Noel Short and are presented on 7 November each year – the date Liverpool was founded.

“There isn’t a more fitting time to acknowledge our volunteers who have been such an integral part of our City than on its birthday each year,” Mayor Waller said.

There are three categories of awards a nominee may be eligible for depending on their length of service to the community. Service must be predominantly voluntary in nature.

The Companion of the Order of Liverpool is the most prestigious of the awards reflecting over 15 years of voluntary service, followed by the Officer of the Order of Liverpool (over 10 years) and the Member of the Order of Liverpool (over five years).

Liverpool City Council are accepting submissions for the Order of Liverpool Awards until 24 June 2021. Nomination forms are online via www.liverpool.nsw.gov.au/oola.
