Council is constructing a car park at the popular Wentworth Falls visitor attraction, Lincolns Rock.
There is currently no formal parking at the site and no parking restrictions in place. The new car park will help to manage parking, with 16 formal spaces plus one accessible space.
Work began at the end of May 2021 and is likely to take 10-12 weeks, weather permitting.
“Council is committed to building appropriate visitor infrastructure at our most popular sites to manage parking, and to limit impacts to local residents and the environment,” Mayor Cr Mark Greenhill said.
“Parking is currently occurring at an informal site that is no longer able to facilitate the number of visitor vehicles to Lincolns Rock.
“This new car park will help us balance the needs of residents and visitors by featuring directional signage. It will be located a short distance from the existing space, making it a safer and better managed destination.”
With its sweeping valley views, Lincolns Rock has become an increasingly popular visitor destination in Wentworth Falls for Blue Mountains locals as well as visitors.
The new car park will be located at the north end of Little Switzerland Drive meaning vehicles will no longer park at the existing informal site on the south of this street. A short path will provide safe access to Lincolns Rock.
A turning circle will allow for traffic movements, a raingarden will be installed to manage drainage, and a fire trail gate will prevent vehicles parking close to the rock.
During the works, construction traffic will be accessing the site, except on Sundays. Lincolns Rock will remain open until closer to the end of the project when a full closure will be required to enable construction at the intersection of Hordern Road and Little Switzerland Drive.
