Pool lovers in Oakey can soon dive into a new and improved aquatic centre with a new kiosk and change rooms to be completed by early 2022.
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will commence works to construct the new facilities late 2021.
The project will include new facilities to improve access for people with a disability.
TRC Environment and Community Services Committee Chair Cr James O’Shea said the project will breathe new life into the much-loved Oakey Aquatic Centre.
“The existing kiosk and change rooms have served the community very well over the years but corrosion and general wear and tear have impacted these buildings and they are now in need of an update,” Cr O’Shea said.
“The current kiosk and change rooms will be demolished to make way for new and improved facilities that will provide better access to the Aquatic Centre for people with a disability.
“The pool will reopen in September but with construction works still taking place, which may cause some minor disruption to the community.
“Oakey Aquatic Centre is a great community based facility and once these improvement works are complete, it will be an even better facility to be enjoyed by the community for many years to come.”
