Saturday 5 June is World Environment Day, with the theme REIMAGINE. RECREATE. RESTORE.

The United Nations states that ‘This is our moment. We cannot turn back time. But we can grow trees, green our cities, re-wild our gardens, change our diets and clean up rivers and coasts. We are the generation that can make peace with nature'.

While some of these suggestions require longer term action, there’s a few easy simple steps you can take to help our environment right now.

We’ve made the first one super easy! Come to one of our events! There’s a Simplifying Solar Expo on 5 June, community nursery open days at Manly Dam and Curl Curl where you can find out about the great work our volunteers do (and get a free native plant!) and more. Get creative and rethink, reuse and recycle your waste. Check out our upcoming waste reduction events and join the Northern Beaches’ battle against waste. Your backyard can be a habitat for our precious local wildlife. Check out our video on how to successfully plant native shrubs. Natural tree hollows can take over 100 years to form and are sadly in short supply. Why not consider making a possum drey in your backyard? It will provide vital shelter to possums and other small mammals, as well as birds. Watch our video to see how easy it is to create. Establish a worm farm in your garden. This is a great way to dispose of organic waste from your home and create soil and fertiliser for your garden. Here’s our quick video guide. Consider joining your local Bushcare group. It’s a great way to connect with others in your local area and help restore our beautiful bushland. Make the change and help wipe out single use plastic by supporting our ‘Swap this for that campaign’.
