Record prizemoney for Boulia camel races...

The weekend of racing, camping and entertainment, known as the “Melbourne Cup of camel races” will be held on 17-18 July.

The 2021 Boulia Camel Races will boast a record $45,000 prize pool, marking a triumphant return for the event which was cancelled last year because of COVID-19.

The feature race is the 1500m Cup Final – Australia’s longest and most coveted camel race.

The defending champions are Boulia trainers Dannileah Stewart and Ronnie Callope who will look to repeat their 2019 success with their camel Wason.

Trainers and jockeys travel up to 2100km for the Boulia Camel Races, including entries from New South Wales and Victoria.

This year marks the 24th event after it was first held in 1997. It has grown to become a must-do experience among outback travellers.

The program includes live music, novelty races, camp oven cooking, helicopter rides and the Great Australian Ride-on Lawn Mower Race.

While most travellers bring their own camping set-up, the addition of glamping tents proved a hit with luxury travellers at the last event in 2019. Tent capacity has doubled for this year.

A three-day Boulia Camel Races pass is $90 per adult, with camping included.  Under-18s get free entry.
