Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is introducing a change in traffic conditions at the intersection of West and O’Quinn Street in Toowoomba.

After reviewing peak hour conditions, TRC Infrastructure Committee Chair Councillor Carol Taylor said Council had made a decision to improve safety by implementing a change.

“Due to the high volumes of traffic during peak hours we’ll be installing a no right turn right, from 7-9am and 3-6pm, Monday to Friday, from West Street to O’Quinn Street,” she said.

“With the Region continuing to grow, it’s important we regularly look at the way our traffic flows and make adjustments when necessary.

“When reviewing conditions we noticed how difficult it was for motorists to make the right turn across traffic during peak hours and that the motorists who were waiting to make a right turn, held up traffic considerably behind them.

“These circumstances create a risk of motorists turning inappropriately in front of oncoming traffic, along with the potential for rear-end and side-swipe accidents, as motorists try to avoid turning vehicles.

“Council will be installing an LED sign to advise motorists of the change in conditions, with work expected to be completed by the end of this week.

“Council thanks the community for their patience and co-operation during these works.”
