Input needed for Foreshore Management Plan

The submission deadline for Prevelly and Gnarabup’s new Foreshore Management Plan has been extended and an extra information session planned, giving people more time and opportunity to have their say.

Shire of Augusta Margaret River Coordinator Environment Landcare Services John McKinney said some previous information sessions went ahead but others were rained out, so he hoped an indoor session would bring even more people forward to hear about the project, discuss issues and make suggestions.

“Prevelly and Gnarabup hold special places in locals’ hearts, which is why we want to gather as much community input as possible,” he said.

“It’s vital we protect and restore the diverse cultural and environmental values of this coastal strip, and this plan – along with valuable community input – will be crucial in making this happen.”

Developed in the context of previous assessment plans for the Prevelly-Gnarabup foreshore, the plan will cover 5.5kms of coastline and include more than 130ha of coastal reserve.

Mr McKinney said it would help the Shire prioritise management actions on a range of issues and seek funding to implement them.

“As part of the consultation process, we’ll be looking at things like beach and reserve access, weed management and revegetation, and the protection of cultural and environmental values of the area,” he said.

The drop-in information session will be held at The Common Bistro in Gnarabup on Thursday 10 July from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

Participants are not required to RSVP and will be given the opportunity to learn about the project, contribute local insight and make suggestions.

Written submissions should be sent to [email protected] and include your details, general thoughts on the area, what makes it valuable, any areas of concerns and ideas for future management.

The submission deadline is 14 June.
