The relocation of the bus stop on the eastern side of Victoria Street in Toowoomba, outside of the Grand Central Shopping Centre, is now complete.
Previously located across from the Toowoomba City Bowls Club, near Little Street, Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) Infrastructure Committee Portfolio Leader Melissa Taylor said Council had worked with key stakeholders to relocate the bus stop to a more community-friendly location near the Victoria Street entrances of Grand Central.
“With the weather elements an issue for passengers wanting to use the bus stop, I’m pleased we’ve been able to successfully move the location,” Cr Taylor said.
“Council worked with Grand Central and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to have the bus stop relocated under the shelter of the Grand Central overbridge.
“While this may have seemed like an easy solution, safety concerns were also raised with reports of traffic failing to give way to pedestrians crossing the road at the traffic signals at the Grand Central speed ramp.
“It has taken some time to work through these matters and as such, we appreciate the public’s patience with this.”
General Manager for Passenger Transport Integration in the TransLink Division of TMR, Peter Milward, said TMR was pleased to help council deliver improvements for customers.
“We’re always looking to make it easier to access public transport, and it’s great that passengers will now benefit from this improved bus stop location,” Mr Milward said.
This project was collaboratively delivered between the Department of Transport and Main Roads, TransLink, Grand Central Shopping Centre and Toowoomba Regional Council.
