Landscaping work at Byron Visitor Centre underway

The exterior of the Byron Visitor Information Centre (VIC) is getting a major ‘freshen up’ with workers moving in this week to undertake a significant $250,000 landscaping project.

The upgrade of the area is an extension of the work undertaken in recent years in neighbouring Railway Park.

“Over the last two years Council has put a lot of effort into making the area around Railway Park more inviting and user-friendly and this project at the VIC will complete the picture,” Council’s Director Infrastructure Phil Holloway said.

The old bus shelter has been removed because the new transit centre has opened in Butler Street and the upgrade of the Rails carpark has been finished.

The VIC will remain open for the duration of the work but there may be some noise and minor disruption.

“We are also working hard on finishing the landscaping work in the Byron rail corridor with the same contractors who worked on Railway Park also working on the rail corridor and VIC projects,” Mr Holloway said.

The work at the VIC includes new gardens, seating, bike racks and footpaths.
