Learn how to capture the night sky

Published on 09 June 2021

Residents wanting to learn how to take photographs of the night sky will be able to learn from one of the Gannawarra’s renowned photographers this month.

The Gannawarra Library Service will host two astrophotography workshops with Cohuna-based photographer, Shayne Mostyn during the weekend of 26-27 June.

“The Gannawarra Library Service is looking forward to hosting Shayne’s workshops, which will cater for digital photography enthusiasts,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“Shayne’s work has a strong following throughout the Gannawarra thanks to his Facebook page and YouTube channel, with many of his images featuring locations within the municipality.

“Shayne’s following has led to selling out of the digital camera workshop, occurring on Sunday, 27 June, however places are still available for the smart phone workshop, occurring on Saturday, 26 June from 6pm.”

Both sessions will begin with a tour of the 2020 David Malin Awards Winning Sky Photos Exhibition, which is on display at Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library until the end of July, before heading to Reedy Lake for the workshop.

Participants will be required to bring their own smart phone or digital camera with manual settings, and tripod/phone holder, depending on the workshop they are attending, as well as the ability to travel in their own vehicle from the library to Reedy Lake.
