Meet the artist: BAAP finalist Benjamin Aitken

Benjamin Aitken grew up in Bayside and attended Sandringham Secondary College. He continues his connection to the school as an inspiring guest speaker to year 12 art students.
Benjamin is no stranger to art prizes and has been selected numerous times as a finalist for the Archibald Prize. In 2020 he was a finalist in the Sir John Sulman Prize and in 2019 a Semi-finalist for the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, to name a few.
Benjamin works across various mediums including painting, video, and photography. He often references personal narratives, humour, and art-world politics, which makes his work both playful and tongue in check. Ben’s untitled figurative painting was selected as a finalist for the 2020/21 Bayside Acquisitive Art Prize.
Bayside Gallery is currently closed to the public in accordance with COVID-19 circuit breaker restrictions but you can see Benjamin Aitken's Untitled 2019 and the Bayside Acquisitive Art Prize exhibition of finalists at Bayside Gallery once we reopen, until 4 July 2021
