Sports teams are returning to training on Bayside’s ovals, so if you’re exercising your dog on an off-leash sportsground, please follow these simple rules:
Effective control means you can recall your dog with voice or hand commands, and you have constant sight of your dog to monitor its behaviour and restrain, if necessary.
When you’re watching your pet at play, you’re not only looking after its safety but also protecting the safety of other dogs and people, and our shared open spaces. Sports can be unpredictable, so the safest place for your dog to be during sports training and matches is off the field.
We know that most people practise responsible dog ownership and pick up after their pooch or pop it on a lead where required. However, we will continue to regularly patrol our parks and open spaces to ensure pet owners are aware of the rules and are doing the right thing, as significant fines can apply.

To help dog walkers plan their visits to off-leash sportsgrounds outside of organised sport training times and matches, we have published the seasonal schedule on our website.
During the winter season (April to October), our four-legged friends do have much more freedom with greater off-leash access to beach and foreshore areas. Our places to walk your dog map shows beach areas where dogs can be off-leash at all times from April to October.
