Pioneer Park in Goombungee is the latest Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) park set for an extensive upgrade in the coming years.
As part of a Master Plan report, which was endorsed by Council, TRC Environment and Community Committee portfolio lead Cr Tim McMahon, said a number of exciting changes had been planned for the future of the facility.
“The parks in our regional areas are so important to our community which is why I’m pleased to see this report come before Council,” Cr McMahon said.
“The park was first identified in the 2016 Toowoomba Region Open Space Strategy as a location which required improved facilities to meet the growth for this area.
“Following this Council undertook engagement with residents to ensure our vision matched the vision of our community and the end product is something we should all be proud about.
“As part of proposed park masterplan improvement works there are proposals for the inclusion of significant landscaping incorporating a wide-selection of trees, shrubs and other landscape improvements which will enhance the overall look and feel of the park.
“In addition to this, the report includes recommendations on the provision of new play equipment for children as well as the inclusion of outdoor gym equipment which feeds into Council’s vision of creating an active and healthy Region.
“The masterplan also has a strong focus on the delivery of accessible car parking, drinking fountains, amenities, park furniture and wider footpaths.
“There are also further recommendations for improved recreational amenities and internal park footpath connections.”
The Master Plan was approved at the Ordinary Meeting of Council on 15 June 2021.
