Use your waste vouchers by end July

21 June 2021

Now is a good time to do that household or garden clean-up, with Bega Valley Shire Council’s current run of free waste vouchers expiring after 31 July.

New vouchers will be issued soon after, but existing vouchers will no longer be redeemable after the July expiry date.

Council’s Waste Strategy Coordinator, Joley Vidau advised residents with unused vouchers to avoid a last-minute rush.

“There are better places to spend your weekend than in a queue at your nearest waste transfer station,” Ms Vidau said.

“It’s common for things to get really busy at our waste transfer stations as we move closer to the voucher expiry date.

“If you’re planning a clear-out at home, think about getting in early to avoid the queues.

“Each voucher can be used to drop off half a cubic metre of general domestic waste, including bulky items like fridges, couches or an inner-spring mattress.

“A voucher will also entitle customers to drop off one cubic metre of garden waste at Merimbula, Eden, Bermagui and Wallagoot, or to collect up to a cubic metre of our amazing FOGO compost.

“If you’re all out of vouchers, you may be surprised to know that gas bottles, fire extinguishers, paint, fluoro light globes, car and household batteries, motor and cooking oil, and smoke detectors can be dropped off for free at the Merimbula Community Recycling Centre—no voucher needed.

“It won’t be long until new vouchers are available. For the first time we’ll be going paperless, making them available on our popular Bega Valley Waste App. More news about this is on its way, so stay tuned.”
