Road works are kicking off across Ararat Rural City, including new upgrades to Dean and Baird Street that are part of a larger effort to make our community more resilient to future flooding.

Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison said the road safety improvements for Baird Street and Dean Street would help reduce stormwater runoff for residents in the area.

“Council is concerned about the safety and quality of both streets, especially with Dean street being a gravel road and its capacity to cope with floods,” said Dr Harrison.

“Both Dean Street and Baird Street projects will be carried out in three stages to include new stormwater pipes and pits, construction of new kerb and channel, and sealing works.

“During the first stage, the contractors will assist with new pits and pipes being installed to create a better stormwater system.”

These improvements will result in more efficient drainage systems, meaning a reduced risk of flooding and safer roads that will serve the community for many years to come.

“When the first phase is complete, the team will start preparing the ground for kerb and channel works,” Dr Harrison added.

“Time and time again, we’ve mentioned roads are a top priority. We continue to deliver on critical infrastructure improvements, including roads and drainage works throughout Greater Ararat as part of our capital works program.”

Council has been in communication with residents on the road projects through letter drops and visitations where possible. We appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation while works are being carried out.

The project is being undertaken by KHS Contract and is anticipated to be completed by early July (weather dependent).
