Liverpool City Council has held an awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of athletes supported by the South West Sydney Academy of Sport (SWSAS), living in the Liverpool area.
The reception held at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, honoured 32 local, emerging athletes, along with their coaches.
These exceptional athletes compete across a diverse range of sports, including Australian rules football, golf, basketball, triathlon, softball, netball, BMX, baton twirling and alpine ski racing.
Despite more than a year of disrupted training and competition due to COVID-19, many athletes have been able to thrive.
Mayor Wendy Waller said Council is proud to support the ambitions of up-and-coming sportspeople within the community.
“The achievements of our young athletes are remarkable given the difficulties they have experienced over the last year,” Mayor Waller said.
“Council supports local sporting growth and development through our Sporting Donations Program and Sporting Grants”.
Liverpool City Council currently commits $100,000 annually towards sporting donations and grants including $30,000 towards funding the important work of the South West Sydney Academy of Sport.
