An application for an extension to an existing temporary three-month mobile trader’s licence to utilise Lot 800 Banksia Drive in Coral Bay was considered by Council at their meeting on 22 June. The site is zoned for tourism with restricted usage for a camping ground, caravan park, hotel/motel or tourism development.
“The Applicant was seeking to deliver Australia Post services and sell goods and merchandise, including Lotterywest products from this site. As this is not consistent with the Local Planning Scheme No. 13, Council resolved to not approve the application,” said Shire President, Eddie Smith.
In March, the Shire of Carnarvon provided a three-month mobile trading license to this applicant to use this site, to provide an opportunity for the applicant to identify an alternative and appropriate trading location.
“The Shire acknowledges that the Coral Bay Mobile Trading Policy contradicts the planning scheme; therefore, the policy has also been revoked by Council,” said Shire President, Eddie Smith.
“It was also identified that the proposed activity or place of trading is in the opinion of Council undesirable due to site access and traffic issues,” said Mr Smith.
Shire President, Eddie Smith said, “The needs of the district are adequately catered for in relation to aspects of the application, specifically clothing, stationery and newspapers”.
