Cohuna residents are benefiting from the redevelopment of Kings Park, which opened to the public on Friday, 25 June.
Developed following months of engagement with the Lions Club of Cohuna, community groups and residents, the redevelopment aimed to increase the popularity of the park, located at the intersection of Belmont and Cullen streets.
“Council is pleased to have partnered with the Lions Club of Cohuna and residents to rejuvenate Kings Park into a space the community can be proud of,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“Feedback received during this engagement period helped determine many of the new features that Council staff have installed in the park during the past three months.”
The redevelopment included expanding the playground on the Belmont side of the park, which now features an adult and toddler swing, carousel and a playground log scramble balance area.
Basketball enthusiasts will benefit from the installation of a half-court space, whilst increased picnic seating, log seating and stepping logs to cater for families visiting the park.
The redevelopment was the second to use the popular ReSpark the Park process, which was highly commended in the Prevention and Community Safety category at the 2019 National Awards for Local Government.
“Kings Park joins McCann Crescent Park, Kerang in using this popular planning process, which empowers the community to take ownership of its play spaces,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“Council thanks the community for their support of this project and looks forward to seeing the long-term benefits of this redevelopment.”
