Benalla Rural City Council has adopted its 2021/2022 Budget.
The budget includes a record $13.389 million capital works program highlighted by a $3 million upgrade to the Benalla Art Gallery and $2.014 million redevelopment of the Benalla Visitor Information Centre.
Roadworks total $2.140 million and $1.144 million will be invested into drainage works.
The capital works program is funded by $7.322 million of Australian and Victorian government grants and $6.067 million in Council cash.
The budget includes a 1.50 percent rate increase in line with the Victorian Government’s Fair Go Rates system. Forecast operating revenue is $36.519 million with operating expenses of $34.566 million resulting in an operating surplus of $1.953 million.
Waste management charges increase by 5 percent and are budgeted to raise $3.751 million.
No new borrowings are proposed for 2021/2022. Debt decreases by more than $1 million to $3.804 million by 30 June 2022.
CEO Dom Testoni said that he was proud of how the budget delivered for the community.
‘This is a responsible budget that allows us to continue to deliver our full range of services,’ said Mr Testoni.
‘We are grateful for funding from the Australian and Victorian governments. Their significant contribution to our capital works program has allowed us to grow our community assets while maintaining a fiscally responsible budget.’
