Council, in partnership with Cricket Victoria, is working to establish a new community cricket club to play out of James Bathe Recreation Reserve in Pakenham.
A public meeting to discuss the new cricket club will be held on Wednesday 14 July at 6.30pm.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Brett Owen is calling on the community to put up their hand up and help be part of the formation of this new inclusive cricket club.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to bring cricket to this brand-new sporting hub and officially call it their home,” Cr Owen said.
“We really want to see the continued growth of cricket in our Shire. It is a fantastic sport for everyone.
“I encourage you to come along to the public meeting and take part in the development of this cricket club.”
Central Ward Councillor Collin Ross encouraged all residents to come along to the community meeting.
“It doesn’t matter if you have a cricket background or not, come along and learn all about this new cricket club and how it will benefit our community,” Cr Ross said.
“Cricket Victoria look forward to working with the local community to bring this facility to life through the great game of cricket,” Cricket Victoria Area Manager South East, Jason Mathers said.
It is anticipated the club will up and running for the 21/22 cricket season.
James Bathe Recreation Reserve is located at 67 Caversham Drive, Pakenham.
