Pets enrich our lives in many wonderful ways and we have a duty to manage their welfare and place in our community.

Council is reviewing its Domestic Animal Management Plan and seeking input about priorities for managing dogs and cats in our municipality. The Plan provides the framework for animal management services and an overview for ongoing compliance and education.

The Plan seeks to:

promote responsible pet ownership protect the environment and local wildlife from the negative impacts of dogs and cats address animal management welfare.

Maroondah Mayor, Councillor Kylie Spears, encourages the community to have their say and help pets in our community.

“For many, our pets are our family and contribute greatly to personal wellbeing. But it’s important they are well-managed to minimise the potential for nuisance and harm to others, while also protecting our wildlife,” Cr Spears said.

“Your feedback will help us to better understand our residents’ views about animal management in Maroondah. Your responses will help inform the Plan.”

Developed by our our Animal Management Team, the draft Plan will also draw from research, benchmarking and consultation across the state.

The Plan is currently in consultation phase and we encourage the community to provide feedback. You can either send your views directly, or a survey has been made available both online and in hard copy. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete.

Keep an eye out for pop-ups at shopping centres and reserves, too. We want to hear from all community members, not just pet owners.
