Brimbank’s annual NAIDOC Week celebrations recognise the unique and important place Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have in our community.
NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The week is celebrated by all Australians and is a great opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Heal Country is the theme for NAIDOC 2021. Country is inherent to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity- spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, and culturally.
It is more than a place. Country is spoken of like a person. Country is family, kin, law, lore, ceremony, traditions, and language. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples it has been this way since the dawn of time.
Healing Country means finally resolving many of the outstanding injustices which impact the lives of Indigenous peoples. It is about the historical, political, and administrative landscapes adapting to successfully empower and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, nations, and heritage.
Heal Country, heal our nation.
