Wyndham City is proud to announce July’s One Wyndham recipient is Tanya Ajit.

Ms Ajit was nominated for the award by her teacher. An inspiring social enterprise entrepreneur, she has developed a financial literacy program for young people, encouraging them to invest in themselves and develop and improve their financial literacy.

One Wyndham recipients are residents aged between 12 and 25 who positively contribute to the Wyndham community and who are role models to other young people.

Each month Council selects a Wyndham resident to be awarded the ‘young person of the month’.

Winners are awarded a $200 gift voucher of their choice and other prizes.

Ms Ajit attends Werribee Secondary College and is currently the ‘Positive Climate for Learning Vice-Captain’, representing students at her local school.

She has participated in a range of activities from the “Youth in Philanthropy’ program to volunteering at Werribee Salvation Army, fundraising for charities as well as participating in Miss Teen Galaxy Australia. She was also assistant dance teacher at ‘That Dance Place’, coaching and teaching children dance moves.

Ms Ajit is an advocate for building financial literacy in our young people and seeks to develop, advocate and implement policies that focus on prioritising young people’s needs.

Wyndham Mayor Cr Adele Hegedich said: “Tanya is actively involved in her school and her extra curricula activities show her dedication and commitment through fundraising, volunteering and leading. She is a great representative for Wyndham and is an inspiring role model for students.”

“Tanya is making a positive difference in our community by empowering our young people to be financially aware and inspiring our young people to have the confidence to live their best life and follow their dreams.”

Tanya developed an online platform for young people, which provides free financial literacy resources with a focus on building these important life skills.

“Providing young people with the financial skills to navigate life will build confidence and empower them to take on opportunities,” Ms Ajit said.

“My focus is to promote self-love and encourage acceptance of everyone for who they are and to support and inspire young people to value and believe in themselves.”
