Bayside has a new Local Law to ensure Council can respond to local issues and protect our natural and built environments, health and safety, and everyone's enjoyment of shared public spaces.

The Neighbourhood Amenity Local Law 2021 and associated Local Law Guidelines were adopted by Council in June and came into effect on 1 July 2021.

Protecting our environment

Preventing long-term storage of large vehicles on roads

Trailers, boats and caravans will now need a permit to be stored on any Bayside road or Council land for a continuous period of 28 days or more or for more than 56 days in a period of three consecutive months. The process to apply for a permit is being developed and will be available via Council’s website soon.

Environmental impact of drones

A permit to fly a drone or model aircraft on Council land is not currently required, however, the new Local Law provides that Council may designate an area on which a person must not operate a model aircraft, including a drone, without a permit. Areas where permits would be required, such as an environmentally sensitive area for flora and fauna, are yet to be determined and would be considered by Council at a future meeting.

Community consultation

The new Local Law was developed following extensive community consultation. More than 7,000 community members had their say on local issues between August 2020 and April 2021. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Local Law review.
