Mandatory COVID Check-In

As of Monday 12 July, the use of the Service NSW QR code will be mandatory at all workplaces and retail businesses. The following businesses will need to display the Service NSW QR Code and take reasonable steps to ensure people entering their premises check-in using the Service NSW QR codes or digital sign-in sheet for visitors without a digital device:

• Retail businesses and supermarkets • Individual shops within shopping centres. Shopping centres to display QR codes at entry points where practicable • Gyms • Offices, including call centres • Manufacturing and warehousing • Universities and TAFE • Schools including teachers and visitors (such as Parents and contractors) EXCLUDING students

Hospitality and hairdressers that are already using the Service NSW QR Code will need to ensure staff and visitors, maintenance workers and delivery drivers check-in.

Hospitality businesses will need to extend the use of the Services NSW COVID-Safe check-in to all customers including takeaway orders.

Minister for Digital and Customer Service Victor Dominello said “This is about keeping customers and staff safe and getting all businesses open again as soon as possible, expanding the mandate would give NSW Health contact tracers real-time access to QR code data from a greater number of venues including supermarkets, retail stores, gyms and offices”.

Businesses that fail to comply with these new order requirements may be subject to fines and in case of flagrant breaches, temporary closure orders.

SafeWork will be undertaking verifications on the main highway routes, e.g. service stations, motels and hospitality venues, in the coming weeks to ensure the following:

• Businesses are aware of the pending changes and where required are in the process of implementing the Service NSW QR Code for go live on 12 July. • Is the QR code easily accessible. • Has the business installed adequate COVID Safe signage? • Where required, have a current COVID19 Safety Plan that has been registered with Services NSW and is available to all staff, and those who may be impacted on 12 July are preparing a plan for registration. • Has the business developed and implemented the mandatory use of masks in all indoor workplaces, for staff and visitors, as gazetted from 6:00 Saturday 26 June 2021, and systems to manage non-compliance. • Has the business developed and implemented good COVID Safe hygiene practices for staff and visitors and have staff have been trained. • The business is maintaining records for those who do not have a digital device and these are manually entered into the Services NSW QR code site, they need to be available within 4 hours. • Are the businesses adhering to the capacity restrictions, e.g. square metre rule, available on the Public Health Orders and continue to be updated. • Businesses have controls in place to exclude unwell staff and visitors. • All relevant staff have been trained in all the above systems of work.

All data captured by the Service NSW COVID-safe check-in is only used for the purpose of contact tracing by NSW Health. It is deleted after 28 days.
