Lots to see and do in Wodonga's backyard
City of Wodonga 7 Jul 2021

If you are looking for last-minute ideas to fill in time during the school holidays, read on.

You don't have to travel far to experience new adventures and make great memories these school holidays.

There's plenty to do in our own backyard (we are talking about Wodonga, not the land outside your house).

Wodonga is a historic regional centre full of culture, great food and fantastic sightseeing.

Here's our list:

* Pack a picnic, grab the car keys and take a trip up Huon Hill.

You will be king of the castle as you lookout over Albury-Wodonga and take in views of Lake Hume, as well as the Kiewa River, the Alpine region and the Murray and Kiewa rivers.

Get your camera ready as there are many photo opportunities of the scenic view and don't forget to take a couple of selfies.

* These winter school holidays are the perfect opportunity to get outside and explore our region and its rich history.

Come visit Bonegilla Migrant Experience and take part in a rare opportunity to explore a collection of original buildings and walk in the shoes of those migrants who made this their first Australian home.

The site is now open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

To visit the site for a self-guided tour, admission fee is $5 adult, $4 concession and children 16 years and under are free.

* Wodonga has a long history with the Australian Armed Forces.

Have you visited the Army Museum Bandiana?

The museum is right on our doorstep and houses the largest military museum collection in Australia.

Experience a leading-edge focus for the interpretation and display of Australia's rich military heritage, with a special emphasis on the history of the Army's Logistic Corps.

* Let the kids run around and burn off their extra energy at Junction Place.

There's water play features to keep them entertained and sculptures to climb.

When the kids get hungry, there's plenty of food and drink options and you can relax in style inside one of the new eating pods installed at Junction Place, in an area called Precinct One.

If trying new food is your thing, there's always a great selection of street food on offer ana number of businesses at and around Junction Square.

Junction Square is home to markets and festivals throughout the year with the next market on July 18 from 9am to 1pm.

The Made By Me Market features an array of handmade and unique products as well as food, face painting, live music and entertainment.

* Older children may like to get out their mountain bike and check out the Hunchback Mountain Bike Park, with entry off Felltimber Creek Rd.

Hunchback MTB Park

The trail network has been professionally built to meet the needs of intermediate level and above mountain bikers and offers a variety of trail and skill development options.

Be sure to wear a helmet and carry a mobile phone.

Also be careful of uneven ground and beware of stock and wildlife.
