A concept design of the new Miles Streetscape

A project to completely revitalise the Miles CBD is a step closer to fruition, with Western Downs Regional Council endorsing the successful contractor to deliver the upgrade.
Council has approved Bellwether Contractors Pty Ltd to construct the new-look Miles CBD which will reinvigorate the town and encourage more people to meet, dine, shop and stay longer.
Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said the appointment of the construction contractor signalled the green light for works to get underway.
“This is a really exciting project which delivers on our vision to aggressively attract business and investment opportunities, right across the Western Downs,” Cr McVeigh said.
“it’s also about advancing our region as a tourist destination, and the new streetscape will not only beautify the main street, celebrate local history, and activate local businesses, it will also encourage people to slow down and explore this fantastic community.
“Miles is a beautiful town which is built on the people that make it, and the Miles CBD streetscape project is a fantastic example of how Council and the community can work together to achieve great things.
“The project will involve revitalising the main street to create a village feel which is RV friendly, with various features such as lighting, outdoor dining opportunities, street tables and stools, colourful landscaping, improved pedestrian linkages and public art.”
“We’re also excited to welcome Miles Back to the Bush Festival in September, and we will be halting construction for the duration of the event to minimise impacts.”
Works are set to commence in coming weeks, with the project programmed to be completed by the end of 2021.
The project is being delivered in partnership with the Australian Government under its Local Roads Community Infrastructure Program which has contributed $3.2 million to the project.
