The pool at the Margaret River Recreation Centre is closed effective immediately due to the overnight storm damage. Staff attended the centre this morning to discover the pool had almost entirely drained of water, with external pipes damaged by a section of wall dislodged by the wind and damaged valves unable to be closed off. Shire of Augusta Margaret River Recreation Centre Manager Dylan Brown staff are moving quickly to address the issue so the facility can be reopened as soon as possible. “We were in contact with engineers first thing this morning and have initiated the insurance claims process,” he said. “We suspect we will be needing parts from Perth, then we need to complete the repairs, refill and reheat the pool, and treat the water and test it to health standards. “It’s going to take at least two weeks, but we are already going as fast as we can to get the problems resolved.” Mr Brown apologised for any disappointment caused by the late cancellation. “It’s never good timing for a matter like this, but we’re a bit unlucky that it’s happened the first day of school holidays,” he said. “Please bear with us while we do our best to expedite repairs and the get facility back up and running. Mr Brown said all swimming and aquatic classes were cancelled for the next two weeks and advice was pending thereafter. Kids Club Vacation Care will continue at the centre as per usual with swimming activities replaced with other dry land activities. Memberships that include pool access will be automatically credited with a two week extension. Anyone with any further questions can contact the centre on 97805620 or email [email protected] Further updates will be posted on the Recreation Centre’s website and Facebook page.
