Weddin Shire Council, in partnership with Cowra Shire Council, is holding a free introductory briefing session for potential candidates in the Weddin and Cowra Shires who are considering standing in the September 2021 local government elections.

The two-hour session will provide participants with an understanding of the role of Councillor and how it fits in with other roles and levels of government, as well as the expectations and potential challenges of being a Councillor.

'BECOMING A COUNCILLOR' - WOMEN’S INFORMATION FORUM

Residents are advised that Cowra Council will be hosting a free information session for women interested in becoming a Councillor on Saturday 17 July 2021 from 10am until 1pm at the Cowra Civic Centre.

The Forum will be presented by the President of the Australian Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA) NSW Branch, Cr Cassandra Coleman of Lithgow City Council. Topics to be covered include the current climate across NSW in local government, a snapshot of female representation and the steps involved in running as a candidate for local government. A light lunch will be provided.

CAREERLINK VAN MONTHLY VISIT

Residents are advised that the CareerLink Central West Van will be visiting Main Street, Grenfell each month with the next visit scheduled for Tuesday 13 July 2021 from 11:00am until 11:30am.

CareerLink Central West is a community-based, regional career development service delivered by Skillset that provides free, accessible and quality careers information and advice to help working-age residents made educated career decisions and support local businesses with the skilled and informed workforce they need to grow and thrive into the future.

A CareerLink Consultant will be available to speak with residents about the service, and to register them for career assistance and advice.

DRAFT RENEWABLE ENERGY ACTION PLAN

100% Renewables was engaged by Central NSW Joint Organisation, acting through the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment to develop a Renewable Energy Action Plan (REAP) for Weddin Shire Council. The aim of the REAP is to allow Council to identify and prioritise opportunities that will help to cost effectively increase the amount of renewable energy at its facilities and lower energy demand.

The Draft Weddin Shire Council REAP builds on past and continuing work by Council to improve energy efficiency and implement renewables, and puts a framework in place around future actions.

The Draft REAP comprises of the following three (3) main elements which are organised into short, medium and long term plans: -

Onsite energy efficiency and renewable energy; Renewable electricity purchasing; and Sustainable transport energy.

The draft REAP is currently on display for comment and can be viewed on Council's Public Exhibition webpage or alternatively at Council’s Administration Building.

Written submissions are invited from the public and will be received up until 5:00pm on Friday 23 July 2021.
