You know working for Council as an Early Childhood Educator means you’ll be part of a workplace  voted the best large employer of the year*. That’s a pretty good claim to fame!

We currently have several full-time and part-time positions available and if you’re not experienced – no worries, we’ll pay for your training.

If you’re not convinced yet, hear from Brookvale Children’s Centre team member Athalia, and see what she thinks about working for Council.

1. How long have you been working for Council and your position?

I have been working for Council for nearly 11.5 months - first as a casual educator in Children’s Services and now I am completing a contract role as a Diploma qualified educator and room leader.

2. What is your favourite thing about being an early learning educator?

I can make a real positive difference to the lives of the little ones I teach. I love knowing I can support and guide these children during their early years until they move onto school and take on the next stage of their lives.

3. What do you like most about your position/working for Council?

Working with Council has been a great opportunity to be a part of an organisation that truly focus on building and adding value to our community, valuing staff, their talents and the work they put in and always put children and their families first.

4. What ongoing training and development do you undertake?

Council has an in-house library of courses available which staff can access. These courses give guidance and training on subjects such as Work Health and Safety, inclusive and diverse practices at work and courses focussing on other functional and supporting areas of our work environment.

Staff can also attend various professional development courses. These workshops assist in building and strengthening skills and enhancing their knowledge within the scope of their role.

Currently, I will be undertaking training that helps build not only my own skills but also the skills of my colleagues to support us in working with children who require additional assistance within various areas of their learning and developmental journeys. We will cover topics like understanding certain behaviours better to support their needs throughout the day.

5. What are some of the benefits of working for Council?

There are so many! Above Award pay rates, wellness benefits such as contribution to gym memberships, access to Council’s Aquatic centres and gyms, rostered days off and staff recognition awards.

6. What advice do you have for someone who may be considering a career in childcare?

Don’t wait! Find your passion in working with children and what you want to focus on in their development as this will form an essential part of your pedagogy as a teacher and the impact you have on the children you teach.

7. If you had another career before working in childcare, how does it compare?

I am originally from business management, logistics and manufacturing background and from my perspective I have always loved seeing processes through from beginning to end and considered it to be quite fulfilling; however, working with children has given me a whole different kind of motivation to feel fulfilled.
