Study Cairns has been granted $150,000 in Council funding over the next three years to facilitate sustainable economic growth of the International Education and Training sector.
Under the new three-year agreement, there is also the possibility Study Cairns applying for additional project funding of up to $50,000 per year.
A key achievement of Study Cairns during the COVID-19 crisis was the delivery of the #CairnsCares campaign, which facilitated support from the community for the wellbeing of the international students who remained in Cairns during the pandemic.
The campaign, which was also supported by Study Queensland, helped Study Cairns provide $48,000 of groceries and distribute over 7,000 meals to students in need.
The #CairnsCares campaign has played an important role in protecting the reputation of the Cairns region as an international education destination, with a survey revealing that 73.1% of students would recommend studying in Cairns, 91.8% were happy they were in Queensland during the pandemic, and 79.6% stated their study experience met or was better than they expected.
This resolution needs to be ratified at the next Ordinary Meeting of Council, to be held on 28 July 2021.
