The rebuild of the public amenities block on the Princes Highway in Cobargo has taken a major step forward, with the concept design plans complete and available for the community to view ahead of construction commencing later this year.
Bega Valley Shire Council’s Infrastructure and Services Manager, Gemma Gill thanked the community for their continued patience throughout the rebuild process.
“We know how extensively Cobargo was impacted by the Black Summer bushfires, with the amenities block one of the many buildings destroyed,” Ms Gill said.
“We understand the community desire to have this important public facility reinstated as soon as possible, and we’d like to thank the community for their patience as we undertake the important task of recovery and rebuilding right across the shire.”
Construction of the new amenities is set to commence later this year and will include single accessible and unisex ambulant toilets, with nappy change facilities and linking pathways. It will be situated on the same site as the previous building.
“We also welcome the recent announcement of funding for the Cobargo Community Development Project under Round 2 of the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, and as the revitalisation of the Cobargo CBD takes shape, further community engagement will occur on landscaping and garden initiatives.”
New temporary accessible toilets have recently been installed at 52-54 Princes Highway in Cobargo (opposite Cobargo Co-Operative) for public use until the project is completed. Council has also approved construction of an additional public amenity in Apex Park, with design concepts for this project to be on display soon.
