The Coffs Harbour Local Government Election will be held on Saturday, 4 September 2021 and will be run by the NSW Electoral Commission.
Coffs Harbour City Council would like to encourage anyone considering nominating as a Mayor or Councillor to find out more about their obligations, responsibilities and what’s involved in representing the community.
Nominations open Monday, 26 July 2021, so before then, potential candidates should check their enrolment details are correct before the rolls close at 6pm, Monday 26 July 2021. To enrol, visit the NSW Electoral commissions how to enrol webpage or update your details at the Australian electoral Commission website.
To assist potential candidates, the NSW Electoral Commission website provides candidate resources such as the Candidate Handbook. The Office of Local Government’s website also provides resources including the Become a Councillor page and Online Candidate Training Tool.
To help potential candidates decide if nominating is the right decision for them, Coffs Harbour City Council is holding an online Candidate Information Session at 6:30pm, Wednesday 21 July 2021. More information and a link to register can be found on Council’s Local Government Elections webpage.
Remember, nominations close at 12 noon, Wednesday 4 August 2021 and other key election dates can be found in the election calendar.
The NSW Electoral Commission recommends all potential candidates should seek their own independent legal advice if they are unsure whether they are eligible to run for public office in a local council or how the law applies to their specific circumstances.
