Bushfire funding to create an accessible Smart Hub at historic Picton Post Office

Funding from the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund will help deliver upgrades to the old Picton Post Office, transforming it into an accessible community ‘Smart Hub’.

The iconic post office building will receive $986,570 of upgrades to create an inclusive co-working space; including installation of a lift, construction of accessible car parking and associated footpaths, walkways and ramps.

Mayor Robert Khan said, “Our vision is for the Old Post Office Building to be the centrepiece of a great smart working hub that benefits residents across Wollondilly.”

“It will be exciting to see the building brought to life once again, so we can open it up to the community and provide support for local business.”

“Covid has changed the way we live and work and this Smart Hub will enable our residents to have the best of both worlds, working close to home and also in the heart of a vibrant historic village.”

Federal Member for Hume, Angus Taylor MP said that the new space would support economic recovery in Wollondilly following the impacts of the Green Wattle Creek fire.

“I look forward to seeing the Smart Hub become a shared workspace for new small businesses by providing a venue and helping with networking opportunities for local employees,” he said.

State Member for Wollondilly Nathaniel Smith MP said, ““This funding will provide upgrades to an iconic building providing, at its core, accessibility for the entire community that will act as an incentive to live and work locally.”

“The project will provide a source of economic stimulus and a valuable shared space for local business.”

This is one of four Wollondilly projects to receive funding under the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, co-funded by the Australian and NSW Governments.
