Whether you’re a cricket fanatic or just up for a social day out, the Men’s Day event at the St Lawrence Sportsground will be sure to bowl you over this Saturday, 17 July.
All set to the theme of men’s health and wellbeing, the annual Leesa Hammond-Mill memorial cricket match will kick off from 10am and guests will hear from special keynote speaker and former Australian and Queensland cricketer, Michael Kasprowicz in the afternoon.
Run by the Coastal Community Development Service Neighbourhood Centre in conjunction with the St Lawrence Public Sportsground Committee Inc, the event is a combined celebration to mark International Men’s Day and Men’s Health Week.
Each year from 14 – 20 June, Men’s Health Week is celebrated, and International Men’s Day is marked on 19 November.
Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the Coast is busy a hub for events in the cooler months this year. The coinciding of the annual memorial match and the St Lawrence Men’s Day has come at a great time.
“The Men’s Day event was originally postponed from June, which now is better fitting for the community with the timing of the annual Leesa Hammond-Mill memorial cricket match.
“Plus, how lucky we are to welcome Michael Kasprowicz to the region to share his words around men’s health, his sporting and business career highlights, and the opportunity to mingle with the community.
“I’m told he’s keen to pick up a bat and ball and join in the match, which will certainly be a highlight for all those attending,” Mayor Baker said.
Anyone is welcome to join in the cricket match – not just the blokes – and teams will be drawn out of a hat on the day. Registrations are open from 9:30am and the game will commence from 10am.
Presentations will follow with winning team, best and fairest player and encouragement awards being named from the day. A complementary dinner and music will round out the evening.
