Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will become an official Paintback collection site able to accept unwanted paint and packaging from both trade and DIY painters.

Council has signed on to the major environmental initiative to keep unwanted paint from being illegally dumped or polluting landfill and vital waterways.

TRC Water and Waste Portfolio Leader Cr Nancy Sommerfield said the Region’s domestic and commercial customers will be able to drop off up to 100 litres of architectural and decorative paint products and/or packaging per visit for innovative reuse and responsible disposal.

“This is an exciting initiative and we’re proud to partner with Paintback to establish a dedicated drop-off location in Toowoomba and to help create a sustainable future for the paint industry,” Cr Sommerfield said.

“Paintback continues to establish collection points all over Australia with presence in each state and territory and we’re thrilled Toowoomba is now part of this innovative, nation-wide project.

“Along with disposing of paint and packaging responsibly, Paintback is committed to researching new ways to repurpose unwanted paint materials while helping to develop a circular economy.

“Dropping your unwanted or unused paint off to a dedicated Paintback collection site is free and it’s an easy and simple way to responsibly dispose of wasted paint while recycling and diverting waste from landfill.”

Councillors endorsed the engagement of Paintback for the collection and disposal of paints at its Water and Waste Committee Meeting on Tuesday (13 July).

The Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility (GTWMF) will be the official Paintback collection site for the Region. Other Council-run waste management facilities across the Region will continue to accept up to 20 litres of paint or paint products per visit from domestic customers only.
