POSITIVE FINDINGS FROM AN INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF THE SHIRE’S GOVERNANCE
COUNCIL MEETING UPDATE
A report on a review of the Shire’s Governance by Andrew Hammond and John Woodhouse, two highly respected local government professionals with decades of senior experience in the sector, has shown the Shire of Carnarvon in a very positive.
This report, which followed an inquiry that was carried out under section 8.3(2) of the Local Government Act 1995, considered the compliance of the Shire of Carnarvon under various aspects of the Act and various subsidiary regulations.
“I am pleased and encouraged by this report that this Council is performing its role in supporting good governance, while we also acknowledge that there are areas of improvement, these are expected in the context of continuous improvement. “ said Shire President, Eddie Smith.
“The report found no evidence that Councillors were not performing their roles. Having two experienced and qualified local government practitioners carry out this investigation should give the Carnarvon Community confidence that we are adhering to the legislation and to the Council Code of Conduct.” said Cr Smith.
Shire CEO, Andrea Selvey stated that “Over the next 3 months the Shire Administration will work with Council to review the report recommendations and put a plan in place to implement the recommendations in a prioritised manner. The intent is that the implementation plan will be costed and presented formally at our Council Meeting on 28 September.”
