Families are set to benefit after Wanneroo Council awarded tenders for the provision of playground works in 24 local parks and open spaces at Tuesday night’s Ordinary Council Meeting.

The parks, which are spread across 14 different suburbs within the City, will soon be refreshed with upgrades including new playground equipment, softfall areas and the installation of shade sail structures.

City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the works would provide a much needed revamp of park and playground facilities for local residents.

“Families with children make up over 40 per cent of households within the City of Wanneroo,” Mayor Roberts said.

“Providing these families with inclusive parks and open spaces is extremely important, not only to improve the look and feel of neighbourhoods, but also to promote good physical and mental health.

“Additionally, installing new shade sail structures in several of these parks will help to provide the families who use them with sun protection and help them to stay sun smart.

“The upgrades will ensure our community can continue to enjoy them for many years to come.”

The tender for the works was advertised on 20 March 2021 and closed on 11 May 2021. Submissions were evaluated against a range of criteria including sustainability, access and inclusion, and demonstrated experience.

The contracts for the works have been awarded by tender to Playmaster, Forpark, Kompan, Active Discovery, Supreme Shades, Perth Better Homes, and Astro Synthetic Surfaces.

The City has budgeted $2.25 million for the project, with construction scheduled to commence in September 2021 and expected to be completed in 12 months.
