Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has delivered more than $60,000 of works to improve one of the Region’s most loved bushwalking trails in Crows Nest.

Delivered through the Toowoomba Trails Network Strategy, the Bullocky’s Rest Park - Applegum Walk - Hartmann Park upgrade project was fully funded by Council and completed with the helping hands of the community and local businesses.

TRC Environment and Community Portfolio Leader Cr Tim McMahon said the project was made possible by volunteers, local contractors and different Council branches working together to collectively deliver the works.

“Council led the project but it was made possible by the input and contribution of the community. This was a great example of what can be achieved when everyone works together for the benefit of our beautiful Region,” Cr McMahon said.

“Special thanks to Toowoomba Christian College, who assisted with the restoration of old walking tracks, and all the local businesses directly involved in the project – HMF Engineering, Zen Landscaping and Crows Nest Community Solutions.

Cr McMahon said extensive works were undertaken including installing a range of new signage, improved walking maps, new interpretive signage, replacement of botanical plaques, building new infrastructure and landscaping works.

“As part of the works, a creek crossing platform was installed on Hartmann Park walk, we’ve extended the fence and installed steps at the Pump Hole to improve safety, as well as refurbished the trail that starts from Chasely Park,” he said.

“The upgrade was an important project contributing to the preservation of Crows Nest’s unique natural landscape and enhancing the Region’s network of bushwalking trails, to promote health and recreation.”

Located in largely undisturbed bushland around Crows Nest, Applegum Walk connects Bullocky’s Rest Park, the Pump Hole and Hartmann Park, which are all historically and culturally significant points of local interest.

“Bullocky’s Rest Park and Hartmann Park are located in beautiful bushland and are perfect for a picnic. The Applegum Walk links both parks along the Crows Nest and Bald Hill Creeks,” Cr McMahon said.

“Facilities along the walking trail and in these parks were in need of an upgrade to ensure these recreational areas can continue to be enjoyed by the local community and visitors to Crows Nest as well.”

Improvement works on the Bullocky’s Rest Park- Applegum Walk - Hartmann Park - commenced late 2020 and were completed in June.
