Children’s online programming returns to the Mountains!
Blue Mountains 23 Jul 2021

Blue Mountains Library are pleased to announce that a brand new series of online videos for pre-schoolers will be hitting the airwaves as of next week.

Starting from Wednesday, 28 July 2021, weekly episodes of Crafttime and Storytime for pre-schoolers will air at 10am on the Library’s YouTube and Facebook channels.

Each episode of Crafttime has step by step, easy to follow craft activities for parents to make at home with their children. The craft activities accompany the theme of the story being read on Storytime each week.

Blue Mountains Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said: “During these difficult times, we appreciate how hard it is for parents, especially those with young children, to be at home, day after day. As we experience this prolonged stay at home period, online resources like these for children and families have never been more important, and we commend the Blue Mountains Library and their staff for these initiatives.”

Councillor Romola Hollywood, also the Vice President of NSW Public Libraries Association, said: “There’s an activity for every child – or even an inner child – that can be tackled using simple craft and everyday items. This is yet another great example of how Council libraries are creatively adapting services so we can continue to support our community during the COVID public health restrictions.”

Throughout the year, Blue Mountains Library have been curating a broad range of resources and activities for kids of all ages to do at home. Fun and educational guides on how to make a volcano, build a shelter, create a terrarium or trap a cloud in a jar, can be found on the Library’s At Home Activities webpage.

There are also a wide range of art and craft Creative Corner videos on the Library’s YouTube Channel.

In addition to this, on the Library website, there are some amazing eResources such as Storybox Library and Birdie’s Tree, an online site that is designed to help children make sense of, and recover from natural disasters such as fire, storms and epidemics, including a great title: Birdie and The Virus.
