With the South-East Queensland lockdown at the edge of the Toowoomba Region, Mayor Paul Antonio is urging residents to adhere to the health advice.

“These are difficult and uncertain times we’re facing,” Mayor Antonio said.

“We’ve been extremely fortunate not to be included in the lockdown however, with the lockdown area on our border it’s crucial we follow all of the Queensland Health directives.

“This includes getting yourself educated on the current advice, getting yourself tested if you’re showing any symptoms and getting yourself vaccinated.

“Although the Toowoomba Region isn’t in lockdown, anyone who has been to one of the 11 local government areas named, along with anyone else in your household, needs to follow the lockdown directive.

“Darling Downs Health provides free COVID-19 testing from 8.30am to 4pm, seven days a week, at the Bailie Henderson Hospital drive-through test site. Access to the drive-through test site is via the Mort Street entrance.

“They have also opened up additional testing lanes at the Baillie Henderson Hospital to accommodate the increased volume of testing.

“In addition to this, there are several other testing sites around the Region. To find your nearest site, visit the Queensland Health website and enter your postcode.

“Obviously this is an incredibly stressful time for all of us, in particular our health care workers. Please be patient and kind to our frontline staff – they’re doing their best to keep our communities safe.

“While the current lockdown is a priority, our overall goal is to get as many people as possible vaccinated.”

In the Toowoomba Region, priority has been given to the below groups:

second dose vaccination all healthcare workers aircrew, quarantine and border workers residential aged care and disability care critical and high-risk workers including emergency services, defence, police, fire, and meat processing.

If you don’t meet the above criteria, there are two ways to get a vaccination appointment:
