More families choosing cloth nappies
City of Wodonga 2 Aug 2021

Did you know disposable nappies cost families on average between $1900 and $3000 over two and a half years?

This year 44 Wodonga families participated in the Halve Waste cloth nappy rebate which closed on June 30.

More families are embracing the re-usable ethos with modern cloth nappies for many reasons including the financial benefits and because they are kinder to the environment.

Families from Wodonga (44), Albury (53), Indigo (15), Federation (5), Greater Hume (3), and Towong (2) councils took part in the rebate.

There were 122 families in total.

If each of these families uses cloth nappies, it results in a reduction of about 6000 disposable nappies being sent to landfill from infancy to the average toilet training age.

Cloth nappies can be used for multiple children – saving even more from landfill, saving emissions and, families hip pockets.

Halve Waste calculations estimate even with the cost of laundering the modern cloth nappy that for every $1 spent on them, families can save at least $5.03 on disposable nappies and wipes over the life of their usage.

Halve Waste will repeat the rebate from early 2022, with purchases eligible from July 1, 2021.
